GLOBAL WILLAGE In a small willage in the mountains, old man Dimitri plots to sell his water, (after all it’s free!) to the Fools from the South. Once the pipeline takes the water, the crops run dry. The willagers rebel and destroy the pipeline. The Fools from the South return to collect on their contract and Dimitri is faced with losing his only daughter, the beautiful singer Nadia, in exchange for the water. A morality tale set in the forest, accompanied by music inspired by the Roma of Eastern Europe. Project Concept The world’s most precious resource, water, will be the next generation’s most priceless commodity. Drawing from Commedia traditions with broad characters and live, original music, Global Willage, a site specific project taking place in Nelson, BC. will reflect realties facing our rural mountain community in the near future.
