KHAOS / Χάος
KHAOS: the lower atmosphere which surrounds the earth. Khaos literally means the gap, the space between heaven and earth.

Project
KHAOS is an opera that re-imagines the myth of Persephone and Demeter as a metaphor for climate change. Persephone’s annual return to the realm of her mother Demeter guaranteed Demeter would bless the earth with fertility. But what if Persephone is unable to return? Set in a mythical present, KHAOS will highlight the voices of two central female characters, two central male characters and be supported by a flexible chorus. KHAOS will receive its world premiere March 7 -11, 2012 in Nelson, BC.
